I’m in a similar place to Haman where I’m very friendly to religion, but not convinced of it. A couple of years ago, I even joined a bible study group, mind wide open and prepared to potentially be converted. But at the end of it, I just didn’t feel any divinity in the text. It felt about the same as reading the ancient Greeks’ blend of history and mythology. Some parts were very detailed and seemed literal, others seemed more metaphorical, in most cases it was impossible to know for sure, and many parts were just plain bizarre. And the whole thing felt very fragmentary, like reading a document that was 90% redacted, such that I could almost never feel comfortable drawing conclusions from what was there, without knowing what was missing.
