In the best case scenario that the US lets Texas leave on favorable conditions with free trade, visa free vacations, etc, all US citizens in Texas are going to have joint US Texas citizenship.

They will then be treated similarly to someone living in France with joint US French citizenship. As part of that, they will have to pay taxes to the IRS based on their worldwide income no matter where they live.

So a new Texas Nation may be in a state where they need to provide new services such as health care and national defense, but their citizens are still paying tax to the IRS, so a new tax would be difficult to levy.

To get out of paying US taxes, you need to renounce your citizenship, which takes money and time and then you need to be sure that your other passport lets you travel where you want to go.

On the plus side, you would have no EPA, NRC, or FDA, so you could have a huge amount of innovation.

I’m a 67 years old, native Texan. I live on Social Security. Very little amount. How will this affect me? Medicare?
